About artist Diane Schroeder

I am at my happiest when I am outside, exploring. There are so many treasures to discover, marvelous and wondrous things. It might be a leaf that is now only a web of veins, or lily pads frozen under new ice, or mesmerizing shapes formed by reeds and their reflections. You never know. You just need to be out there, looking, and open to the beauty. In my photographs I try to catch some of this wonder, to show to others the magic that I see around me.

I have been entranced by photography ever since I was given a Kodak Instamatic as a child. This love continued as an undercurrent as I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Cornell University, an MBA from Northwestern University, and spent years working and then mothering. I have devoted more time to it in recent years, both as more time became available and as I made the switch to digital photography. The creative opportunities opened up by shooting digitally and working in Photoshop are phenomenal.

I shoot with a Nikon D3 and D700, process in Photoshop and Lightroom, and do much of my own printing. In addition to fine art photography, I also shoot portraits, events, and interior architecture.

I am a native New Yorker and have lived in the Twin Cities since 1997, along with my husband and three children. We spend as much time as we can at our cabin in Hayward on the Spider Lake chain. In addition to my photographic pursuits, I sing with VocalEssence and the Minnesota Chorale and spend as much time outdoors as possible, running, biking, inline skating, cross country skiing, and kayaking.
